MARILYN MONROE: The real legend

She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson, on June 1,1926 in Los Angeles(CA), to Gladys Baker.
As the identity of her father was unknown she was later baptized Norma Jeane Baker.
Norma spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages until 1937,when she found a family to live with.

From 1937 to 1942, she lived with a family friend whose husband was transferred to the East Coast, they couldn't afford taking Norma Jeane so she had to decide between a foster home and marriage.

She married neighbor Jimmy Doherty on June 19,1942. After 2 years of happiness, Jimmy joined the Merchant Marines and was sent to South Pacific and Norma got a job at the Radio Plane Munitions factory in Burbank(CA).
It was there that she first met photographer David Conovar, who used her for a shoot for Yank Magazine and then began sending her modeling jobs.

She was every "photographer's dream"

In 1946, Jimmy returned and, having to choose between him and her career, she divorced him and signed a contract with Twentieth Century Fox on August 26,1946.

She dyed her hair blonde and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe (her granny's last name).
Her first movie role was in '47's "The shocking miss Pilgrim" and her most influencial and important roles were in "All about Eve","Let's make it legal" and "Monkey Business",but she was delivered to stardom in 1953's "Niagara"(where she plays a wife who plots to kill her older husband).

Following "Niagara" were "Gentlemen prefer blondes" and "How to marry a millionaire".
On January 14,1954 she married baseball player Joe DiMaggio at San Francisco's City Hall, during their honeymoon Marilyn performed for the troops in Korea.

Nine months after the wedding, they divorced , but remained close friends.

By 1955,she moved to NYC to study with Lee Strasberg and one year later she started her own motion picture company Marilyn Monroe Productions. She won a Golden Globe for best actress in comedy for 1959's "Some like it hot".

Her third marriage was to playwright Arthur Miller on June 19,1956.Arthur wrote the part of Roslyn Taber in 1961's "The Misfits" especially for her. Unfortunately, their marriage ended on January 20, 1961.
"The Misfits" was Marilyn's last finished film.
At the 1962 Golden Globes, Marilyn was named female World Film Favorite.

But on August 5,1962, she was found dead at the age of 36,in her Brentwood(CA) home.
Her body was laid to rest on August 8,1962 in the Corridor of Memories,24, at the Westwood Memorial Park, in L.A.
